Socially Shared Top 5 Tips for Self-Improvement Month

Every September, we are encouraged to embrace self-improvement, and as a women’s networking group we appreciate the need to balance our business and personal lives better than anyone.

When you attend our sessions, you will meet ladies who have either just started on their entrepreneurial journey or have been at it for a long time and have plenty of stories to tell. Finding that happy balance between creating a thriving working environment and juggling home life can be difficult. The beauty of a networking group is the opportunity to talk things through and understand that you are never alone.

Our sessions include a mini-workshop so you can network with like-minded ladies and learn something new. It’s a format that our members and non-members alike appreciate as we all know how precious our time is. Within each session, there is always a host of fabulous advice given by the hosts and the ladies in attendance. With this in mind, we’ve chosen our top five tips that will help you throughout September to concentrate on your self-improvement, and set goals towards a better, and more balanced life.

Be mindful of your self-care routine

At Socially Shared, we are always conscious of supporting our team and the lovely ladies within our network. However, sometimes we need to look after ourselves. There are so many ways in which you can do this which won’t eat into your budget or time. How about writing alist of 10 things you’re grateful for? Edit who you follow on social media (if they don’t bring you joy, then unfollow). Spend time in the garden. Watch the stars. Say no to something or someone. Dance to your favourite music.

Get out of your comfort zone

To improve yourself, you sometimes have to do the one thing that you fear the most. Public speaking, for example, might fill you with terror. However, as a member of Socially Shared we offer you the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and host a session. Not only are you practising in a safe environment, but you are also promoting your business to your target audience.

Read a book or listen to a podcast

All of the books in our bookshop are written by talented local authors. Keep checking back as there are new titles added all the time.

Declutter your work and/or living space

Decluttering your workspace or a spot in your house that’s been bugging you can do wonders for your self-improvement. When we work on our personal development we are enhancing our quality of life, and there’s no better way than sorting out the space you spend the most time in. Is your desk overflowing? Do you know where to find your bank statements? Has your workspace invaded your living space? Spend an hour or more giving these areas some time and care. Remember this quote; ‘what you do today can improve all your tomorrows.’

Switch off Our final top tip is a simple reminder to switch off your laptop and phone at the end of the day and spend time with your friends and family. Just because you run your own business doesn’t mean you have to be available 24/7. You wouldn’t expect the manager of Next to answer your email query at midnight, so why should you? Self-improvement is all about developing ourselves as entrepreneurs, as well as women, and allowing ourselves some quiet time (without a string of notifications) is vital to our wellbeing as well as our business. Start as you mean to go on and assign work hours/days and stick to them. Switch off your phone to avoid distractions and pick something fabulous from your self-care list to do – now, where did we leave the bubble bath?
