It's a brand new year but is it the old you?
Remember things will NOT change for you in 2021 if you don't change alongside the
calendar. If you were:
Waiting for things to get better
Unwilling to change your habits
your 2021 is going to be the same old circumstances all over again.
My suggestion... start this year very different to every other year; especially if you feel busy
or overwhelmed already.
It can be easy just to pick up where you left off in 2020 and get buried in daily tasks,
overthinking or worse overwhelming stagnation. So this post is a gentle reminder to take the
time you need to arm yourself for the year ahead.
This means stepping away from working ‘in’ your business and devoting even a small
amount of time to working ‘on’ it.
Here’s 10 Ways To Set Yourself Up For Success In 2021
1. Double Down On Paid Opportunity
Get into the mindset of spending - look for opportunities to get in front of people
(your ideal people) and pay for them if they are the perfect fit. Think sponsorships,
alliances, ad spend, email lists, speaking opportunities. Your end goal here is to
attract traffic and grow your list.
2. Line Up Your Sales and Special Offers / Discounts Now
Create a suite of products to meet people where they are at now. Credit is
shrinking, cash flow is critical so think ahead of the game and at what you can do to
meet people where they currently are. Offer a trial entry price, break bigger courses
up into bite size offers at lower price points. Offer payment plans and ensure you’re
set up to accept PayPal payments.
3. Go Virtual
There is still a lot in 2021 that will stop people from travelling so get into the virtual
mindset and stay there for now, especially if you are a speaker or run events.
4. Become the go-to expert
Because there is so much free info available you have to be a master in your field.
You need to be the expert and know more than anyone else on your topic. They say
“the best marketer wins” but not this year. So, read 50+ books on your topic,
research your industry, create and share high quality content that adds value to your
audience on a consistent basis and become their go-to expert.
5. Mind Your Mind
Where are you spending your time? Who are you surrounding yourself with? What
are you absorbing on a daily basis? Are they lifting you up or dragging you down? If
they are not in the now, not lifting you up or inspiring you to move forward they are
not the right people/places to be.
6. It’s Time for Discipline
Teach yourself to WIN. Winning means discipline, it means consistency, it means
showing up and not stopping. When was the last time you practised winning - when
did you last work on your marketing message, your customer journey and offer
funnels? Are you clear and consistently working on your marketing? If not now is
7. Spend Some Money
Money is energy and it needs to flow to grow. So spend some money on your team
if you need to expend, on mentorship if you’re ready to grow, on technology if
you’re ready to automate. If you want to stay or get ahead you have to continue to
8. Understand How to Reach Your People
Understand where your ideal clients are in their journey right now – if they are
drowning they can’t buy an event ticket but you can give them one. If they are
doggy paddling they are exhausted, throw them a lifeline – write their copy, create
their plan. Understand how to reach your people and meet them there via
marketing, marketing, marketing.
9. Check On People
Reach out to your clients and customers more than you have. Connect with people,
check in on them multiple times because people want to be seen and heard.
10. Innovate Don’t Reinvent
Don’t reinvent simply innovate for the times. To continually reinvent yourself is
exhausting. Create systems, technologies and strategies that work in any economy.
I had planned to speak at 23 conferences in 2020 that all had to be cancelled. I
didn’t stop speaking or change everything I simply reworked my plan to speak
virtually, do more podcast interviews and work on updating my website and
automating my business into an online portal I could be proud of.
